BASIC THINGS YOU WILL NEED:

Wash with baby shampoo, use a conditioner also; dry with blowdryer. Puppy will pee directly after washing so make sure to put outside or on pee pad!

Eukanuba Dry Dog food, puppy petite, small breed. Petco and PetSmart

Distilled Water. No people food or wet food. If puppy is not eating well the first couple of days, try baby food coated on dry pebbles (Stage 2 Chicken). Probably eat it right up. Do not change the food. Puppy will usually get diarrhea if dog food is changed abruptly. Should eat every 5 hours or so. If you do decide to try a different brand of dog food, simply mix ½ old food with ½ new brand over a 5-6 day period.

25" – 36" black coated wire crate. Petco or Walmart

Little bed and blanket for crate.

For Maltese puppies: Angels Eyes is highly recommended. We are using this now and you can purchase this online www.angelseyesonline.com. It costs about $24.00 and well worth it! This will keep your Maltese free from tear stain and continue to be a snowy white.

Ear cleaning maintenance products are a must for these small puppies: Try your local pet store or online. Zymox is a great ear drop, helps with yeast, bacteria and mites. Otic powders and liquid cleaners provide maintenance and keep your dog free of ear problems. Weekly use is recommended. Online:   www.revivalanimal.com; www.vetamerica.com; www.drsfostersmith.com. You can order prescription meds, toys, maintenance needs, flea drops and many other items half-price on a few of these on-line stores. Just a little FYI. Things get a little expensive, especially if you have more than one puppy. This helps!

  • Tube of Nutri-Cal. Nutri-Cal is a sugar supplement. If your puppies are not consuming enough food, feeling lethargic or not playing and running, puppies blood sugar could be declining. This is a sugar supplement and will keep the pups blood sugar up. Just place a dollup on finger and puppy will lick it off. Repeat 2-3 times and keep close observance of puppy. Puppy should start to have more energy.

If your puppy will not be subjected to such an environment, refuse the Lepto vaccine. This can cause an adverse reaction in your little puppy.

**Should your puppy have an adverse reaction to the vaccinations, i.e. continued vomiting, continued diarrhea, fast heart rate, shaking, and extreme crying, notify your vet immediately. He will inform you on how to treat. If this happens during regular hours, return the pet immediately to the vet’s office. Your puppy may need to be treated for the symptoms. Your puppy has not had an adverse reaction to the brand Vanguard.

  • You may be offered a 3-year vaccine for your puppy. DO NOT allow the 3-year vaccine to be given in this small of a puppy. This also could cause an adverse reaction. A 1-year shot is all that this size of puppy should be given. This means you will have to come back the following year for re-immunization.
